IRS Installment
Agreement Application Guide

The IRS offers installment payment plans. Here’s how to apply:

Step 1: Start Your Application

Go to the IRS Online Payment Agreement page: IRS Online Payment Agreement Tool https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-payment-agreement-application

Step 2: Choose Your Application Type

  1. Click on “Apply/Revise as Individual.”
  2. You’ll be redirected to a login page.
  3. If you already have an account with ID.me, log in using your credentials. If not, you can create a new account.

Step 3: Select Your Payment Plan

Once logged in:

  1. Choose the type of payment plan:
    – Short-Term Plan (up to 180 days)
    – Long-Term Plan (monthly payments)
  2. Enter the total amount you owe.
  3. For monthly plans:
    – Set your monthly payment amount.
    – Choose your preferred debit date (any day of the month).
  4. Submit your application.

✔ What Happens Next?

 

  • You’ll receive instant approval from the IRS (in most cases)*.
  • After approval, submit the confirmation to us so we can proceed with your tax filing.
  • The IRS will also send you a letter detailing your payment schedule and terms at your registered mailing address.

⚠️ Important Terms and Conditions

  1. Responsibility for IRS Approval:
    Please note that it is your responsibility to apply for and obtain approval from the IRS for your installment payment plan. AOTAX will be able to proceed with your tax filing only after receiving the IRS approval confirmation from you.
  2. IRS Decision Authority:
    Approval for the payment plan is granted solely by the IRS, based on your financial profile and the information you provide during the application process. AOTAX does not influence or participate in the IRS’s decision-making.
  3. Submitting Your Approval:
    Once you receive the IRS approval:Kindly upload the approval letter or online approval screenshot in your 2025 ticket ID under the Documents section.
    Please send us a message through the ticket on our client portal so we can move forward with your filing.
  4. Delays and Filing Timeline 
    AOTAX cannot be held responsible for any delays in your tax filing that result from:
  • If your installment agreement is still pending or has been denied, we kindly recommend contacting the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 for further clarification or assistance.
  • If your IRS installment agreement application is rejected before the April 15th deadline, it is your responsibility to manually make the full payment to the IRS and inform us promptly. This will help avoid any delays in filing your return and prevent potential interest or penalty charges on your outstanding balance, including late filing penalties.   • Late submission of the approval document
  • Incomplete or incorrect application details provided to the IRS
